ABSTRACT. THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THIS WORK WERE TO MANUFACTURE AND TO DO BENDING TESTS IN HYBRID LAMINATED BEAMS WITH LAYERS OF MAHOGANY AND FABRICS OF E-GLASS FIBERS IMPREGNATED WITH EPOXY RESIN. IN ADDITION, FOR THE PURPOSE OF COMPARISON, BEAMS OF: (I) SOLID MAHOGANY ; (II) GLUED LAMINATED MAHOGANY; (III) PLYWOOD; AND HYBRID E-GLASS/EPOXY AND COMPENSATED WOOD. THE RESULTS, MAINLY THOSE CONCERNED WITH THE HYBRID BEAMS, PRESENTED GOOD REPEATABILITY, AND INDICATED THE IMPROVEMENTS IN STIFFNESS AND MECHANICAL STRENGTH CAN BE OBTAINED WITH THE USE OF HYBRID WOOD REINFORCED PLASTIC BEAMS.
