ABSTRACT. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY WAS TO ANALYSE AND TO COMPARE THE MICROCRACKS DENSITY OF CONVENTIONAL AND ADDITIVATED HARD CHROMIUM ELECTROPLATING AND THE EFFECTS ON THE ROTATIVE BENDING FATIGUE BEHAVIOUR WHEN DEPOSITED ON HIGH STRENGTH STEEL, ABNT 4340, WHICH IS WIDELY USED IN AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR. THE RESULTS SHOWED A HIGHER MICROCRACKS DENSITY FOUND IN ADDITIVATED HARD CHROMIUM ELECTROPLATED ASSOCIATE TO THE LOW PERFORMANCE IN ROTATIVE BENDING FATIGUE TESTING WITH RESPECT OF CONVENTIONAL HARD CHROMIUM ELECTROPLATING.
KEYWORDS: MICROCRACKS IN HARD CHROMIUM ELECTROPLATING, FATIGUE AND ELECTROPLATING, HIGH STRENGTH STEEL, FATIGUE AND CORROSION, SURFACE TREATMENT.
