NATURAL CONVECTION INSIDE CAVITIES: QUASI STEADY REGIME.
ABSTRACT. SOME NATURAL CONVECTION PROBLEMS INSIDE CAVITIES ALLOW SELF SIMILARITY SOLUTIONS FOR TRANSIENT FLOW. PREVIOUS WORKS SUGGEST THE OCCURRENCE OF THIS REGIME, NAMED QUASI STEADY, WHEN THE BOUNDARY CONDITIONS ARE CONSTANT HEAT FLOW OR UNIFORM LINEAR INCREASE OF TEMPERATURE. IN THIS REGIME THE TEMPERATURE VARIES UNIFORM AND LINEARLY WITH TIME AND THE VELOCITY FIELD IS STEADY. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS WORK WAS TO STUDY THIS REGIME IN THE PROBLEM OF THE HEATING OF A LIQUID INSIDE A VERTICAL CYLINDER SUBJECTED TO A CONSTANT HEAT FLUX IN THE LATERAL WALLS. IN THIS WORK THE FORMULATION OF QUASI STEADY REGIME IS PRESENTED AND THE EQUATIONS ARE SOLVED NUMERICALLY. IN THE RESULTS IT IS SEEN THAT, AFTER A SUFFICIENTLY LONG TIME INTERVAL, THE TEMPERATURE AND VELOCITY FIELDS TEND TO THE ONES OF THE QUASI STEADY REGIME.
KEY-WORDS: NATURAL CONVECTION, NUMERICAL METHODS, TRANSIENT REGIME.
