ABSTRACT. ACTUALLY ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PRACTICE IN THE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS IS THE EARLY SUPPLIER INVOLVEMENT. HOWEVER, DESPITE THESE FACTS AND THAT THIS PRACTICE IS BECOMING VERY COMMON IN A LOT OF INDUSTRIES, THE WAY THAT THIS PARTICIPATION OCCURS AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS ARE STILL LITTLE UNDERSTOOD. FOR TO DESCRIBE THE SUPPLIER-CUSTOMER INTEGRATION CAN BE USING ENTERPRISE MODELS. THEY ARE MODELS REPRESENTING THE BUSINESS PROCESS WITH INFORMATION, RESOURCE, ACTIVITY AND ORGANIZATION. USING THIS MODELS IT IS POSSIBLE TO CAPTURING AN INTEGRATED VIEW OF THE ENTERPRISE. IN THIS STUDY WE PROPOSED THE APPLICATION OF THE REFERENCE MODELS FOR ANALYSIS THE PARTICIPATION OF SUPPLIERS IN THE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS. WE DESCRIBE THIS APPROACH, THE PRINCIPAL HYPOTESIS ABOUT ITS APPLICATION AND THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A METHODOLOGY WITH AIM THE DEVELOP REFERENCE MODELS FOR THIS APPROACH. THIS PROPOSE IS BASED IN A BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW, SPECIALISTS CONSULTS AND THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE OUR RESEARCH GROUP.
