ABSTRACT: THE RESEARCH PROJECT EXECUTED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PASSO FUNDO, RIO GRANDE DO SUL, BRAZIL, IS PRESENTED. THIS PROJECT AIMS AT OPTIMIZATION OF CONVENTIONAL IGNITION SYSTEM OPERATION. ONE CHEAP ELECTRONIC MODULE WAS DEVELOPED TO BE ADDED TO THE IGNITION SYSTEM. A LOT OF SIMULATIONS WAS REALIZED TO EVALUATE THE BENEFIT OF THE SELECTED ALGORITHM OF SPARK TIME TUNING. THE ECONOMY ABOUT 8% TO 10% HAD BEEN CALCULATED AND THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY ON-ROAD TESTS WITH THE PROTOTYPE MODULE.
