Welcome from the Chairman

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of ENCIT2010, the 13th Brazilian Congress of Thermal Sciences and Engineering, I am very pleased to welcome you to Uberlandia – Minas Gerais. This Congress, ENCIT 2010 is promoted by ABCM – Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering – and is being organized by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU) and Mechanical Engineering Department of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

ENCIT is today the most important conference in thermal sciences of Latin America. The history of the ENCIT is the history of the increasing importance in the role of mechanical sciences and engineering in Brazil. Since its first edition, back to 1986, the papers presented in this biennial conference have become a tradition and a reference of quality. This has been a source of pride to all ABCM members, most of them professionals involved with this research area and teaching at undergraduate and graduate courses, research centers and industry.

The subject of the ENCIT2010 is "New Challenges in Thermal Sciences", with a look at the possibilities, needs and challenges of the thermal Sciences and engineering in a scenario of new materials and new technologies in fully new problems.

Uberlandia is considered to be the main city in an area with about 200 municipal districts, embracing the Triangulo Mineiro, Alto Paranaiba and southeast of Goias. The days of meeting will be a unique opportunity for updating knowledge, exchanging experience and also meeting collaborators, many of them to become friends.

To accomplish such a huge task as organizing a conference with 367 papers, the Organizing Committee had the support of several parties to whom we would like to register our gratitude. Firstly, to the Symposium Coordinators, who dedicated their time and competence for the selection of papers and the organization of the technical sessions. We thank all the invited speakers for their willingness to share their knowledge with the thermal and fluid sciences community. We are grateful to the FAPEMIG, CAPES and CNPq not only for their support of this Conference, but also for their role in supporting almost all the research that is carried out in Brazil. We are also grateful to our sponsors for their belief in ENCIT2010 as a vector for the promotion of their institutions. We also acknowledge the response of the authors who provided research papers of the highest level. We finish this list thanking the ABCM for the trust and also for 35 years dedicate to the mechanical engineering community.

I hope that you will enjoy the Conference and the special banquet with a great show!!!!
