This work presents a large eddy simulation and the statistical treatment of the turbulent flow behind a backward facing step. The mathematical model assumes a flow at low Mach and high Reynolds number. The Smagorinsky model is applied to predict the subgrid scale effects. It is presented a statistical methodology to the treatment of the turbulent signals generated with the simulation. The reattaching length and mean velocities profiles are compared with experimental data available in the literature. The numerical results agree with the experimental, but some differences are found and discussed. Velocities signals at four locations are presented and statistically analyzed. Turbulent kinetic energy, skewness and flatness factors are shown. Autocorrelations and power spectrum analysis are reported. Keywords. Large eddy simualtion, Turbulence, Stochastic process, Statistical treatment.
