The Proalcool (Brazil Alcohol Program), created in 1975 by the Brazilian Government to reduce the petroleum import, is in the world, an important initiative to substitute fossil fuels for an alternative and renewable fuel: the alcohol fuel. The new normative legislation of the electric sector (with the regulation of the purchase of surpluses of electric power from autoproductors) opens good perspectives for the contribution of the alcohol sector to the electric sector and to the country. It may also consider that, in agreement with the tendencies of the Brazilian Environmental Legislation, the emission patterns for atmospheric pollution take to the need of these emissions characterization and of the implementation of equipments for its control. Considering the exposed above, this work presents a methodology that allows to evaluate different options of particulate control systems (multicyclones and gas scrubbers) under the technical and economical viewpoint: it is determined the global removal efficiency of particles, the built-up and operation costs and finally the treatment cost of 1 m3 of gas. The obtained results methodology are presented for a typical particles size distribution. Keywords. particulate emissions, bagasse boiler, multicyclones, gas scrubbers.
