This work presents some mesh movement strategies related to Arbitrary Lagrangean-Eulerian (ALE) description of motion in the numerical simulation of fluid-structure interaction problems, by using the Finite Element Method. In order to study the numerical behavior of the algorithms two different computational codes developed by the authors were used. In the numerical examples the coupling of different strategies to perform the mesh movement in both codes, the importance of the use of a proper technique to perform the mesh movement and the influence of such technique on the final result of the simulation are analyzed. Keywords. fluid-structure interaction, computational fluid dynamics, finite elements method, Navier-Stokes equations.
