Abstract. Wind field estimates over a region can be performed by using numerical interpolation of measured data from meteorological stations. However, the topography can increase considerably the complexity of the wind flow in a region, creating major difficulties for the use of conventional interpolation techniques. This work presents a implementation of an algorithm to determine the wind field over urban regions with moderately complex terrain, based on the mass conservation principle. The algorithm is developed using the finite volume technique. The model is tested on a full-scale problem, The Region of Great Vitória - ES (Brazil), where the wind field and its hourly variation are analysed.
Keywords. wind field, complex terrain, finite volume technique.
