<b>Abstract.</b> The compressor is the ``heart`` of all refrigeration systems, mainly if this system operates at variable speed. Due to the development of electronic tecnology and control techniques, the use of variable speed compressors became more effective. However, some operational aspects related to variable speed systems have to carefull analysed aiming to obtain a good performance and to avoid fails. This work presents a bibliographical review about any aspects related to operation of speed-variable compressors
