Fuel cells have been emerging as one of the most promising technologies for energy generation in the future. The molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) uses a ceramic matrix of lithium aluminate, where a mixture of alkaline carbonate is retained (usually a mixture of lithium and potassium or lithium and sodium). In this paper, some technical information about the main types of fuel cells operating in the world, is presented. Later, a study of the reactants flow influence in the production of electricity, is showed. Following, curves of electricity, generated heat and voltage for the MCFC, is presented. As conclusion, the molten carbonate fuel cell can be an excellent opportunity to intensify the energy production in Brazil, allowing high operational efficiency, reduction of environmental impacts and reliability in the energy supply.
