This work present results for the flow field in between parallel plates with a porous obstacle. The flow governing equations are discretized by the control volume method and solved with the SIMPLE method. The effects of the porous medium properties, such as permeability and porosity, are investigated. Two cases are analyzed, namely the flow field with a fixed velocity at the channel entrance and the case of periodic flow over a unit cell with an obstacle. Results indicate a distribution for the turbulent kinetic energy quite distinct from the one for flows over solid obstacles. In a coherent form with the applied mathematical model, the generation rate of turbulence due to the porous matrix seems to be the controlling parameters in determining the final level of turbulence throughout the field.
