DESIGN, MODELING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A MECHATRONIC STRUCTURE AIMING AT ENGINEERING EDUCATION
Summary :
MANY ENGINEERS LEAVE THE UNIVERSITY WITHOUT KNOWING HOW MANY MISTAKES ARE POSSIBLE TO BE DONE, WHILE TRYING TO SIMULATE THE VIBRATIONAL BEHAVIOR OF MECHANICAL STRUCTURES. THE "FEELING" FOR AVOIDING THESE MISTAKES AND FOR REALLY UNDERSTANDING VIBRATION AND CONTROL TECHNIQUES CAN BE DEVELOPED COMBINING THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL EXAMPLES DURING CLASSES. THIS PAPER CONSISTS ON THE DESCRIPTION OF A TWO DEGREES OF FREEDOM STRUCTURE AND ITS CONTROLLER. THE SYSTEM IS CONTROLLED BY AN ELECTROMAGNETIC ACTUATOR AIMING AT REDUCING VIBRATION AMPLITUDES. A SIMPLE MATHEMATICAL MODEL WHICH DESCRIBES THE STRUCTURE AS WELL AS THE ELCTROMAGNETIC ACTUATOR DYNAMICS IS PRESENTED. THIS MODEL IS USED TO DESIGN THE CONTROLLER OPTIMAL GAINS, ACCORDING TO SOME PROJECT RESTRICTIONS. AN EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE PACKAGE DEVELOPED IN THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL DESIGN AT UNICAMP CONTROLS A DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING SYSTEM AND IS USED TO IMPLEMENT THE CONTROLLERS. THIS EDUCATIONAL PACKAGE ALLOWS STUDENTS TO ANALYZE THE SYSTEM DYNAMICS WITH AND WITHOUT THE CONTROLLER, BOTH IN TIME AND FREQUENCY DOMAINS. THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL EXAMPLES OF THIS NATURE HAVE SHOWN OF CAPITAL IMPORTANCE FOR EDUCATING MODERN AND UP-TO-DATED ENGINEERS. |
