 Title:
A STUDY TO RELATE THE SURFACE FINISH TO THE MAIN CUTTING PARAMETERS IN MILLING USING NEURAL NETWORK

Summary :
ABSTRACT. IN INTERRUPTED CUTTING PROCESS, AS MILLING, IT IS DIFFICULT TO STABLISH A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SURFACE FINISH AND THE MAIN CUTTING PARAMETERS. THIS STUDY AIMS TO RELATE THE SURFACE FINISH (RA [MM]) WITH THE FOLLOWING PARAMETERS: CUTTING SPEED, FEED PER TOOTH, DEPTH OF CUT, OVERHANGING LENGTH OF THE CUTTER, MAXIMUN FLANK WEAR, VIBRATION LEVEL AND X POSITION OF THE MILLING TABLE IN RELATION TO THE CUTTER. SURFACE FINISH WAS RECORDED FOR EACH EXPERIMENT AND THE ASSOCIATED DATA USED TO TRAIN AN ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK. THE TRAINED NETWORK WAS USED TO PREDICT SURFACE FINISH, AND THE VALUES USED TO VERIFY ITS BEHAVIOUR AGAINST THE STUDIED PARAMETERS. KEYWORDS: MILLING, NEURAL NETWORK, MODELLING, SURFACE FINISH
