ABSTRACT. THIS WORK PRESENTS A STUDY ON THE TECHNICAL VIABILITY OF A CARNAUBA WAX-BASED ORGANIC VEHICLE (VO) FOR THE LOW-PRESSURE INJECTION MOULDING (0,6MPA) OF METALLIC AND CERAMIC PARTS. THE ORGANIC VEHICLE DEVELOPED WAS USED FOR THE INJECTION OF CERAMIC THREAD-GUIDES. ALL MATERIALS ARE READILY AVAILABLE IN THE LOCAL MARKET. VISCOSITY TESTS WERE EMPLOYED TO DETERMINE THE RELATIVE AMOUNTS OF THE ORGANIC VEHICLE COMPONENTS (CARNAUBA WAX, LOW-DENSITY POLYETHYLENE AND STEARIC ACID) AS WELL AS THE OPTIMUM POWDER CONTENT IN THE CERAMIC MIX. VISCOSITY WAS MEASURED WITH A BROOKFIELD LV-DVIII RHEOMETER. A DOUBLE CAVITY MOLD FOR THE INJECTION OF SIMPLE THREAD-GUIDES WAS DESIGNED AND BUILT USING LOW-CARBON STEEL. PRELIMINARY RESULTS DEMONSTRATE THE POTENTIAL OF BOTH THE PROCESS AND THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED FOR THE MASS-PRODUCTION OF SMALL AND COMPLEX CERAMIC PARTS.
