 Title:
A FIRCTION EQUATION FOR TURBULENT BLOOD FLOWS

Summary :
ABSTRACT. THE ANALYSIS OF TURBULENT FLOWS OF NON NEWTONIAN FLUIDS IS STILL ONE OF THE GREATEST PROBLEMS IN FLUID MECHANICS. IN SPITE OF ITS IMPORTANCE, VERY FEW WORKS CAN BE FOUND IN THE LITERATURE THAT ANALYSES IN DETAIL THE BEHAVIOR OF SUCH FLOWS. AMONG THESE PROBLEMS, THE BLOOD FLOW IN VEINS AND ARTERIES IS ONE OF GREAT SIGNIFICANCE, NOT ONLY FOR SCIENTIFIC STUDIES BUT ALSO FOR MORE PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS SUCH AS THE PROJECT AND CONSTRUCTION OF ARTIFICIAL ORGANS AND THE DIAGNOSTIC OF INFIRMITIES. MANY REOLOGICAL MODELS ARE EMPLOYED IN THE DESCRIPTION OF BLOOD FLOWS, ONE THE MOST POPULAR IS THE MODEL DEVELOPED BY CASSON. IN THE PRESENT WORK AN EXTENSION OF THE FRICTION EQUATION, ORIGINALLY DEVELOPED FOR NEWTONIAN FLUIDS, AND WHICH CAN BE APPLIED IN THE TURBULENT BLOOD FLOW IN DUCT WILL BE DEDUCED, USING THE REOLOGICAL MODEL PROPOSED BY CASSON. THE DEDUCTION WILL BE MADE USING SOME DIMENSIONAL ARGUMENTS AND NO TURBULENCE MODEL WILL BE EMPLOYED. IT WILL BE SHOWN, THAT THE PROPOSED FORMULATION HAS AN LOGARITIMICAL BEHAVIOR, AND ALSO A COMPARISON WITH THE NEWTONIAN CASE WILL BE MADE. KEY WORDS: TURBULENCE, BLOOD, DUCTS.
