ABSTRACT: THRUST CIRCULAR BEARING ARE ANALYZED THROUGH A MODIFIED VERSION REYNOLDS’S EQUATION, WHICH INCLUDES THE INERTIAL TERMS. THIS EQUATION IS SOLVED THROUGH A FINITE VOLUME METHODOLOGY AND BOTH THE RESULTANT LOAD AND THE VISCOUS POWER CONSUMPTION ARE OBTAINED. THESE PARAMETERS ARE DEPENDENT BEARING’S GEOMETRY, WHICH WERE OPTIMIZED USING THE LAGRANGE MULTIPLIERS METHOD TO YIELD THE MAXIMUM LOAD WITH MINIMUM POWER CONSUMPTION. THE GEOMETRY OPTIMIZED WERE: RAYLEIGH SECTOR-SHAPED WITH 4, 8, AND 16 PADS, AND A MILLED GEOMETRY WITH 4 PADS. A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE RAYLEIGH SECTOR-SHAPED WITH 4, 8 AND 16 PADS, AND THE MILLED WITH 4 PADS IS MADE, AND SHOW WHICH THE MILLED GEOMETRY HAS A GOOD PERFORMANCE, CONSIDER ITS FACILITY OF MANUFACTURE IN RELATION RAYLEIGH SECTOR-SHAPED.
