Title:

CHARACTERIZATION OF DYNAMIC PARAMETERS OF STEEL JOIST STRUCTURES
Summary :
THE INTEREST IN THE USE OF STEEL JOIST STRUCTURES IN LONG SPACE-SPAN CONCRETE FLOORS IS, IN GENERAL, INCREASING. THE USE OF THIS KIND OF STRUCTURES ALLIED TO PRESTRESSING TECHNIQUES AND HIGH STRENGTH CONCRETE PERMITS MORE SLENDER CONCRETE FLOOR CONSTRUCTION. HOWEVER, WILIEST SUCH FLOOR MAY STILL ATTENDING THE STRENGTH CONDITION, THEY ARE MORE LIABLE TO THE VIBRATION PROBLEMS, INCLUDING THOSE CAUSED BY PEOPLE WALKING, MOVING, ETC. IN THIS CASE, THE ISOLATION OF THE VIBRATION EFFECTS IS VERY COMPLEX AND THE CONTROL MUST BE DONE BY THE OWN CHARACTERISTIC OF THE STRUCTURE. SO, IT REQUIRES AN ACCURATE MODELLING OF THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR OF THE MODEL. THIS WORK DESCRIBES THE USE OF FINITE ELEMENT MODEL UPDATING IN ORDER TO DEFINE AN ACCURATE MODEL OF A STEEL JOIST STRUCTURE. IT ALSO SHOWS AS THE UPDATED MODEL CAN BE USEFUL FOR PREDICTION STUDIES, LIKE TO INVESTIGATE THE CHANGES OF THE STRUCTURES THAT MAY REDUCE THE VIBRATION LEVELS BY SHIFTING THEIRS NATURAL FREQUENCIES AWAY FROM AN UNDESIRABLE RANGE OF EXCITATION FREQUENCIES. THE VIABILITY OF THE PROPOSED HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED BY USING SIMULATED DATA FROM A STRUCTURE WITH CHARACTERISTIC SIMILAR TO A REAL STRUCTURE.
KEY-WORDS: STEEL JOIST, FINITE ELEMENT, MODAL ANALYSIS, SENSITIVITY, MODEL UPDATING.
