Summary :
|
ABSTRACT. IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEM OF A CONTINUOUS CASTING STRAND, A NUMERICAL SIMULATION HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF HEAT TRANSFER WAS USED TO PREDICT TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION AND SOLID SHELL FORMATION. TRANSIENT HEAT TRANSFER IN THE EARLY STAGES OF SOLIDIFICATION OF A LOW CARBON STEEL ON A WATER- COOLED CHILL AND THE CONSEQUENT EVOLUTION OF THE TEMPERATURE PROFILE HAS BEEN TAKING INTO ACCOUNT. MEASUREMENTS OF HEAT FLUX IN THE MOULD AND MEASUREMENTS OF STRAND SURFACE TEMPERATURES IN THE SECONDARY COOLING REGION HAS BEEN DONE. THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED ON MICROCOMPUTER NETWORK SYSTEM, WITH A SERVER-CLIENT BASIS. BY CONSIDERING A MULTIUSER, MULTITASKING AND MULTIPROCESSING OPERATING SYSTEM WITH A WIDE ARRAY OF FILESYSTEMS AND PARTITION TYPES FOR INTERCONNECTIVITY, A CONTINUOUSLY AND SAFE RUNNING SYSTEM HAS BEEN ASSURED.
KEYWORDS: CONTINUOUS CASTING, HEAT TRANSFER, STEEL SOLIDIFICATION, SIMULATION, CONTROL.
