CONSTRUCTIVE ASPECTS OF A SUPERIOR LIMB ANTHROPOMORPHIC PROSTHESIS - A STUDY OF THE TRANSMISSIONS AND DRIVERS
Summary :
ABSTRACT. RECENT WORKS SHOW THAT ANTHROPOMORPHISM IS ONE OF THE MAIN FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED ON THE DESIGN OF UPPER LIMB PROSTHESIS . AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE REPRODUCTION OF THE MOVEMENTS AND SHAPES OF THE HUMAN FINGERS BECAME VERY IMPORTANT. IT CAN BE SHOWN THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO REPRESENT THE FINGERS AS A GROUP OF MANIPULATOR ROBOTS WITH A COMMON BASE. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE ARE MANY AVAILABLE SETUPS OF THESE ROBOTS, AND NOT ALL OF THEM ARE APPROPRIATED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN ARTIFICIAL FINGER. A GREAT TASK ON THE DESIGN OF THESE ROBOTS IS TO BUILD AN EFFICIENT TRANSMISSION SYSTEM FOR THE DRIVERS AND JOINTS.
THIS WORKS PRESENTS A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE AVAILABLE TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS AND DRIVERS TO BE USED ON AN UPPER LIMB PROSTHESIS. THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS STUDY IS DUE TO SEVERAL DESIGN RESTRICTIONS, RELATED TO WEIGHT, VOLUME AND ANTHROPOMORPHISM. SOME ROBOTICS KNOWLEDGE WAS USED IN THIS WORK. THIS PAPER, THEN, CONTRIBUTES TO THE STUDY OF THE MAIN CONSTRUCTIVE AND MECHANICAL ASPECTS OF ANTHROPOMORPHIC PROSTHESES, CONSIDERING THE AESTHETIC FACTOR, ONE OF THE MAIN ISSUE ON THE DESIGN OF THIS KIND OF PROSTHESIS.
KEYWORDS: UPPER LIMB PROSTHESES, ANTHROPOMORPHIC PROSTHESES, TRANSMISSION AND DRIVING FOR PROSTHESES, ROBOTICS, REHABILITATION ENGINEERING. |
