MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF COTTON FIBERS USED ON OPEN-END SPINNING TO MAKE DENIM FABRIC: CASE STUDY AT TEXTILE INDUSTRIES IN CEARÁ.
Summary :
EACH TYPE OF COTTON HAS CHARACTERISTICS DEPENDING UPON MANY FACTORS, LIKE SOIL, WATER, PLAGUES, FARMING TECHNOLOGY, HARVESTING, AMMOUNT OF RAIN AT BLOOMING TIME, TEMPERATURE AND WINDS ON THE REGION, GRAIN SEPARATION AND HANDLING. THE FAST PRODUCTION DECREASE AT CEARÁ, CAUSED BY PLAGUES, FORCED TO INCREASE IMPORTATION FROM CENTER-SOUTH STATES AS SÃO PAULO, PARANÁ, GOIÁS, MATO GROSSO AND BAHIA, AS WELL AS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES, LIKE ARGENTINA, USA AND EGIPT. THE QUANTITY OF DIFFERENT TYPES REQUIRES ACCURATE CONTROL OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE FIBERS, IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH THE BEST BLENDS FOR THE MARKET. THESE PROPERTIES ARE FUNDAMENTAL FOR THE DENIM MANUFACTURING AND THE BLENDS ESTABLISHED, PROVIDE BUYERS WITH THE RIGHT AMMOUNTS BY EACH TYPE OF COTTON THEY HAVE TO BUY. IN THIS PAPER WE USE REAL DATA COLLECTED AMMONG LOCAL TEXTILE INDUSTRIES, TO COMPARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF BRAZILIAN COTTON FROM CENTER-SOUTH STATES, WITH COTTON IMPORTED FROM ARGENTINA.
