Summary :
|
SOLID MODELING AND GEOMETRIC MODELING ARE TWO TECHNIQUES USED TO REPRESENT PHYSICAL SHAPES THAT GREW SEPARATELY, BUT THEY TEND TO JOIN IN A UNIQUE TECHNIQUE. NOW THEY ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF DEVELOPMENT, POSSESSING SEVERAL APPLICATIONS IN ENGINEERING: PRODUCT MODELING, COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN (CAD), COMPUTER AIDED PROCESS PLANNING (CAPP), COMPUTER AIDED MANUFACTURING (CAM), AMONG OTHERS. THIS WORK DISCUSS ABOUT THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF THE REPRESENTATION B-REP ("BOUNDARY REPRESENTATION") AND OF BÉZIER CURVES AND SURFACES, AND IT PROPOSES A LINE FOR THE INTEGRATION OF BOTH TECHNIQUES. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO INTRODUCE, IN A POLYHEDRAL SOLID MODELER, A UNIFYING DATA STRUCTURE, WHERE THE GEOMETRIC INFORMATION (CURVES AND SURFACES) IT IS UNDERSTOOD AS AN ATTRIBUTE OF THE TOPOLOGIC ELEMENTS (FACE, EDGE AND VERTEX). AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE INCREASE IN THE GEOMETRIC PRECISION OF THE REPRESENTED SOLIDS, THE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS OF THE POLYHEDRAL SOLID MODELERS CAN BE ENLARGED. IN THIS WORK WE PRESENTED A PROPOSAL TO ADAPT POLYHEDRAL ALGORITHMS FOR GENERATION OF PRIMITIVE SOLIDS, LINEAR TRANSLATION AND ROTATIONAL, SECTION FOR A PLANE AND BOOLEAN OPERATIONS BETWEEN SOLIDS, SO THAT THEY CAN BE EXECUTED IN HARMONY WITH CURVES AND SURFACES, NOW REPRESENTED WITH EXACT GEOMETRY. |
