ABSTRACT. ONE OF THE MAIN STAGES IN AN AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM DESIGN IS THE CORRECT COOLING LOAD EVALUATION. AN IMPROPER DETERMINATION OF THESE VALUES CAN PRODUCE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES LIKE THERMAL DISCOMFORT, INADEQUATE REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT SELECTION AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION INCREASING. IN THIS PAPER A DISCUSSION OF THREE METHODS FOR COOLING LOADS CALCULATIONS IS MADE: STEADY STATE, CLTD/CLF AND DETAILED ANALYSIS (PERFORMED BY BLAST). SEVERAL HEAT SOURCES (INTERNAL/EXTERNAL) ARE CONSIDERED AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE COOLING LOAD PROFILE ARE EVALUATED. FOR EACH METHOD, SEVERAL CONSIDERATIONS ARE MADE CONCERNING A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE HYPOTHESIS ADOPTED BY THEM AND ITS CONSEQUENCES IN THE CALCULATION OF THE COOLING LOAD PROFILES.
