SOLUTION OF THE ONE-DIMENSIONAL TRANSPORT EQUATION WITH OPERATOR SPLITTING AND INTEGRATING FACTOR
ABSTRACT. OPERATOR SPLITTING AND INTEGRATING FACTOR METHODS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE SOLUTION OF THE TRANSPORT EQUATION IN ONE-DIMENSIONAL, HOMOGENEOUS, WITH ISOTROPIC SCATTERING, GRAY (WITH NO SPECTRAL DEPENDENCY) PARTICIPATING MEDIA WITH TRANSPARENT SURFACES. RESULTS ARE PRESENTED FOR TEST CASES COVERING A WIDE RANGE OF SINGLE SCATTERING ALBEDO AND OPTICAL THICKNESS VALUES. THE CALCULATED VALUES OF THE EXIT RADIATION INTENSITY ARE COMPARED TO THOSE OBTAINED WITH THE DISCRETE ORDINATES METHOD, DEMONSTRATING THE GOOD COMPUTATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF THE PROPOSED METHODS. THE CALCULATED VALUES FOR THE REFLECTIVITY AND TRANSMISSIVITY ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH PUBLISHED VALUES. MORE PRONOUNCED SOLUTION DEVIATIONS ARE OBSERVED FOR OPTICAL THICK MEDIA AND/OR HIGHLY SCATTERING MEDIA.
