ABSTRACT:THE ELEVATOR SYSTEM FOR THE VERTICAL TRANSPORT OF PEOPLE AND GOODS IS A FUNDAMENTAL COMPONENT IN THE DESIGN OF BUILDINGS. IN THIS CONTEXT, THE AVAILABILITY AND EFFICIENCY OF THIS BUILDING SERVICE IMPOSES A GREAT INFLUENCE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE USERS OF THE BUILDING. THIS PAPER INTRODUCES A MODELING TECHNIQUE BASED ON PETRI NETS, WHICH IS SUITABLE FOR MODELING SYSTEMS THAT CAN BE CONSIDERED DISCRETE EVENT SYSTEMS. THE MODELING OF AN ELEVATOR SYSTEM OF A HOSPITAL INSTALATION IS PRESENTED AS A CASE STUDY.
