SUPERSONIC FLOW SIMULATIONS OVER TYPICAL LAUNCH VEHICLE CONFIGURATIONS
ARE PRESENTED. TWO DIFFERENT COMPUTATIONAL CODES WERE USED IN THIS
INVESTIGATION. BOTH ARE 3-D FINITE DIFFERENCE CODES WRITTEN FOR GENERAL,
BODY-CONFORMING, CURVILINEAR COORDINATE SYSTEMS. THE FIRST CODE SOLVES
THE EULER EQUATIONS WHEREAS THE OTHER CODE SOLVES THE REYNOLDS-AVERAGED
NAVIER-STOKES EQUATIONS USING A MODIFIED BALDWIN-LOMAX TURBULENCE MODEL. SIMULATIONS ARE PERFORMED BOTH FOR THE VLS AND THE SONDA III-A CONFIGURATIONS AT ANGLE OF ATTACK AND FOR VARIOUS SUPERSONIC FREESTREAM MACH NUMBERS. COMPUTATIONAL RESULTS ARE VALIDATED WITH CODE-TO-EXPERIMENT AND CODE-TO-CODE COMPARISONS.
