 Title:
MACHINABILITY PARAMETERS OF CARBON-CARBON COMPOSITE

Summary :
ABSTRACT. FIRSTLY, THIS WORK PRESENTS AS INTRODUCTION, SOME PROPERTIES OF CARBON FIBER REINFORCED COMPOSITES (CFRC) RELATED WITH ITS COMPOSITION AND FABRICATION PROCESS. AFTER, THIS WORK PRESENTS EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS, WHERE TURNING TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT TO STUDY THE PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT TOOL MATERIALS LIKE CERAMICS, CEMENTED CARBIDE, CUBIC BORON NITRIDE (PCBN), AND DIAMOND (PCD) WERE OBSERVED. DURING THE TESTS THE TOOL WEAR WAS MEASURED, AND THE MACHINING FORCES, AS WELL AS THE ENGINE MAIN MOTOR ELECTRIC POWER WERE MONITORED. FOR THE CEMENTED CARBIDE VARIOUS TRIALS IN DIFFERENT CUTTING SPEEDS WERE CARRIED OUT, WHERE THE INFLUENCE OF THE CUTTING CONDITIONS ON TOOL WEAR AND MACHINING FORCES WAS INVESTIGATED. THIS WORK CONCLUDED THAT CFRC COMPOSITE HAS DIFFICULT MACHINABILITY AND ONLY DIAMOND TOOLS SHOWED A GOOD PERFORMANCE. THE CFRC COMPOSITE MACHINING PRODUCE A NOXIOUS POWDER CHIP FOR OPERATOR AND MACHINE-TOOL. KEY-WORDS: MACHINING, CARBON-CARBON COMPOSITE, TOOLS, CUTTING CONDITIONS.
