THE MACHINING WITH CNC MACHINE-TOOLS ALLOWED A GREAT ADVANCE FOR MAKING POSSIBLE THE ATTAINMENT OF MORE COMPLEX SHAPES. THERE ARE SEVERAL STRATEGIES FOR GENERATION OF THE TOOL PATH AND, GENERALLY, ONLY ONE TOOL IS CONSIDERED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE PATH. HOWEVER, THE CURRENT MACHINES OFFER THE POSSIBILITY OF AUTOMATIC CHANGE OF TOOLS, WHAT INDICATES THE POSSIBILITY USING OF MORE THAN ONE TOOL AIMING, USING THIS PROPERTY, THE MACHINING TIME CAN BE REDUCED. IN FRONT OF THE DIVERSE APPLICATIONS OF CNC MACHINES, 2 ½ D POCKETS MACHINING IS DISTINGUISHED FOR THE GREAT NUMBER OF PARTS THAT PRESENT SUCH GEOMETRY, THE METHOD DEAL WITH THE USE OF STANDARDIZED MACHINING STRATEGIES, AS ZIGZAG (PARALLEL MACHINING TO A LINE) AND OFFSET (EQUIDISTANT MACHINING TO THE CONTOUR), AND DETERMINES THE BEST COMBINATION OF TOOLS DIMENSIONS TO MINIMIZE THE TOTAL TIME OF THE MACHINING OPERATION. THE PATHS ARE GENERATED AND THE MACHINING TIME, ADDED TO THE TIME OF THREAD AND TOOLS CHANGE, ARE TABULATED FOR, WITH THE USE OF DYNAMIC PROGRAMMING, TO DEFINE THE SET OF TOOLS THAT WILL IMPLY IN SMALLER TOTAL MACHINING TIME.
