 Title:
BEAD PENETRATION OF ELECTRON BEAM WELDS WITH CONSTANT HEAT INPUT

Summary :
ABSTRACT. ELECTRON BEAM WELDING IS A SPECIAL WELDING TECHNIQUE. THE QUALITY OF THE WELD ACHIEVED BY THIS TECHNIQUE IS MUCH HIGHER THAN IN ANY OTHER COMMON WELDING PROCESS. THE ELECTRON BEAM WELDING PARAMETERS ARE RELATIVELY SIMILAR TO THE OTHER PROCESSES. THESE PARAMETERS ARE DEPENDENT ON THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF THE MATERIAL BEING USED, THE THICKNESS OF THE PLATE TO BE WELDED AND ON THE ENERGY DISTRIBUTION OF THE ELECTRON BEAM. THIS PAPER ANALYSES THE MODIFICATION ON THE PENETRATION BY CHANGING THE TENSION AND THE BEAM CURRENT, WITH CONSTANT VELOCITY, BUT KEEPING A CONSTANT HEAT INPUT ( VXI/V ). THE CAUSES OF THIS MODIFICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED BY THE STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE ELECTRON BEAM DIAMETER IN THE WELDING PROCESS, AND CONCLUDING THAT THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BEHAVIOR OF THE BEAM DIAMETER IS VERY IMPORTANT, UNDER MANY LEVELS OF TENSION AND BEAM CURRENT. IT IS ALSO CONCLUDED THAT THE PENETRATION IS DEFINED BY INDIRECT PARAMETERS OF THE EQUIPMENT BEING USED AND CLAIMED AS: POWER DENSITY AND ENERGY DENSITY KEY WORDS: WELDING, ELECTRON BEAM, WELDING PARAMETERS, WELDING PENETRATION, STAINLESS STEEL
