ABSTRACT. THE DEVOLOPMENT OF STAINLESS SHAPE MEMORY ALLOYS IS VERY RECENT. THIS GROUP HAS BEEN WORKING WITH THESE KIND OF ALLOYS SINCE 1994 AND THE RESULTS OBTAINED ARE VERY PROMISING. IN THIS WORK IT IS SHOWN THE RESULTS OF HARDNESS MEASUREMENT USING THE NANOINDENTATION TECHNIQUE IN SAMPLES THAT WERE SUBMITTED TO DIFFERENT THERMOMECHANICAL TREATMENT CYCLES. IT IS ANALYZED THE SURFACE HARDNESS AND ITS RELATION TO THE PRESENCE OF DIFFERENT PHASES AND COMPARING TO HARDNESS MEASURED BY CONVENTIONAL TECHIQUE. THE ELASTIC MODULUS IS ALSO ESTIMATED USING THE SAME TECHNIQUE.
