SHAPE AND DIMENSIONAL OPTIMIZATION OF TRUSS STRUCTURES
ABSTRACT. IN THIS PAPER WE PRESENT THE RESULTS OF THE APLICATION OF CLASSICAL NUMERICAL ALGORITHMS OF STANDARD NON-LINEAR MATHEMATHICAL PROGRAMMING APPLIED TO THE PROBLEM OF SHAPE AND DIMENSIONAL OPTIMIZATION OF TRUSS STRUCTURES. THE PROBLEM FORMULATION HOLDS THE MINIMIZATION OF THE MASS OF THE STRUCTURE WHICH IS SUBJECTED TO RESTRICTIONS OF AREA, DISPLACEMENTS, STRESS, STABILITY AND NODAL POSITIONS. WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF SOLVING THE PROPOSED PROBLEMS, WE APPLIED THE FOLLOWING METHODS: THE AUGMENTED LAGRANGIAN METHOD (MLA) AND THE QUASI-NEWTON METHOD BFGS – BROYDEN - FLETCHER - GALDFARB – SHANNO. AT THE END, WE PRESENT TWO EXAMPLES TO DEMONSTRATE THE EFICIENCY AND RELIABILITY OF THE IMPLEMENTED ALGORITHMS.
