ABSTRACT: THE PROPOSED WORK DEALS WITH STRUCTURAL RELIABILITY OF MECHANICAL COMPONENTS. IN THIS ANALYSIS THE UNCERTAINTY ASSOCIATED WITH THE PHYSICAL SYSTEM ARE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT, CONFERRING PROBABILISTIC MODES TO THE DESIGN VARIABLES. IN THIS MANNER THE FAILURE PROBABILITY OF THE COMPONENT ANALYZED IS QUANTIFIED, OBTAINING ITS CRITICAL CONFIGURATIONS. THE CHOICE OF THE FAILURE CRITERION DEFINES THE LIMIT STATE SURFACE, DETACHING THE FIELDS OF FAILURE AND SAFETY. TO THE DEFINITION OF THE FAILURE FUNCTION IN THE PROPOSED APPLICATIONS, A SYMBOLIC INTERPRETER TO READ IT WAS IMPLEMENTED IN THE COMPUTATIONAL CODE DEVELOPED TO STRUCTURAL RELIABILITY. THE MOMENT’S METHOD WITH FIRST ORDER APPROXIMATION IS USED IN THE DETERMINATION OF THE FAILURE PROBABILITY, TOGETHER TO RESPONSE SURFACE TECHNIQUE. AN EVALUATION IS DONE, BY MEANS OF SENSIBILITY ANALYSIS, THE FAILURE SURFACE BEHAVIOR, AND THE MEASURE OF RELIABILITY RELATED TO DESIGN VARIABLES. THE IMPLEMENTATIONS QUOTED ALLOWED THE REALIZATION OF AN ADAPTIVE RELIABILITY ANALYSIS USING THE INFORMATION PRODUCED IN THE PRECEDENTS ITERATIONS, DECREASING THE COMPUTATIONAL EFFORT IN THE OBTAINMENT OF THE SOLUTION.
