PRELIMINARY NUMERICAL RESULTS FOR CONSTRAINED NONLINEAR MULTIBODY SYSTEM THROUGH AN ADAPTIVE TIME-DISCONTINUOUS GALERKIN SCHEME
 
Resumo :
THIS PAPER IS CONCERNED WITH THE TIME INTEGRATION OF THE EQUATIONS OF MOTION OF NONLINEAR MULTIBODY SYSTEMS DISCRETIZED USING THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD. A TIME-DISCONTINUOUS GALERKIN SCHEME IS USED TO OBTAIN THE RESPONSE OF THE SYSTEM. THE LAGRANGE MULTIPLIER TECHNIQUE IS USED TO ENFORCE THE KINEMATIC CONSTRAINTS AMONG THE BODIES. THE FORMULATION USES CARTESIAN COORDINATES TO REPRESENT THE POSITION OF EACH BODY WITH RESPECT TO AN INERTIAL SYSTEM. THE SCHEME IS CAST IN A PREDICTOR-MULTICORRECTOR FORM, WHICH PROVIDES UNCONDITIONAL STABILITY, THIRD ORDER ACCURACY AND HIGH FREQUENCY NUMERICAL DISSIPATION. AN ADAPTIVE TIME-STEPPING ALGORITHM IS USED TO SELECT THE PROPER TIME STEP SIZE TO ACCURATELY SOLVE THE SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS. NUMERICAL EXAMPLES ARE PRESENTED TO DEMONSTRATE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ALGORITHM.
