 Titulo:
HP-CLOUDS: A MESHLESS PROPOSAL FOR BEM

Resumo :
DUARTE & ODEN (1996) DEVELOPED THE HP-CLOUDS METHOD, A FAMILY OF APPROXIMATING FUNCTIONS WHICH IS ABLE TO APPROXIMATE FUNCTIONS WITH ANY DESIRED RATE OF CONVERGENCE BY TWO CONTROLLABLE, WELL DEFINED AND EASY HANDLING PARAMETERS: THE H AND P PARAMETERS. THESE FUNCTIONS HAVE SPHERICAL SUPPORT, NAMED CLOUD, CENTERED AT ARBITRARY DEFINED POINTS THAT HAVE INTRINSIC NECESSITY OF CLOUDS SUPERPOSITION. THE HP-CLOUDS METHOD IS FREE OF ASPECT RATIO AND NEEDS NO MESHING, DECREASING PREPROCESSING TIME. BEM USUALLY EMPLOYS A FINITE ELEMENT DISCRETIZATION MESH DISPOSED ON THE BOUNDARY OF THE DOMAIN. IN THIS ARTICLE THE HP-CLOUDS MESHLESS METHOD IS IMPLEMENTED FOR OBTAINING AN APPROXIMATED SOLUTION FOR THE PROPER BOUNDARY INTEGRAL EQUATION OF BEM. IT IS RESTRICTED TO TWO-DIMENSIONAL LAPLACE PROBLEMS. RESULTS OBTAINED FOR SOME TYPICAL MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PROBLEMS ARE DISPLAYED AGAINST ANALYTICAL SOLUTION. ANALYZING THESE RESULTS ONE IDENTIFIES THE INFLUENCE OF THE H AND P PARAMETERS OF THE HP-CLOUDS FAMILY ON THE APPROXIMATED SOLUTION ERROR.
