 Titulo:
TEXTILE FIBERS AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON THERMAL PROTECTION OF PERSONS

Resumo :
APPAREL HAS AS ITS MAIN PURPOSE TO PROTECT HUMAN BODY AGAINST ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATIC VARIATIONS. CLOTHES ARE PROJECTED TO FULFILL CONSUMER NEEDS AND THESE DETERMINE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FABRICS TO BE USED IN TREIR MANUFACTURING. THESE FABRICS ARE WEAVED OR KNITTED AND, ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICS USED, THE RESULTS SUPPLY MORE OR LESS CONFORT AND THERMICAL PROTECTION. THREADS ARE OBTAINED FROM NATURAL OR CHEMICAL FIBERS, THOSE BEING ARTIFICIAL, SYNTHETIC OR MINERAL. THE PROCESS OF SPINNING CAN VARIE THE TITLE, TORSION OR NUMBER OF THREADS ASSOCIATED AND, THIS WAY, ADDS CHARACTERISTICS TO THE FABRICS. WE POINT TO THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FIBERS AS THE MAIN INTERMEDIATORS OF HEAT TRANSFER OF FABRICS. ABSORPTION OF HUMIDITY, FLAMMABILITY, COHESION AND ABRASION ARE CHARACTERISTICS THAT DETERMINE THE FINAL RESULTS OBTAINED ON FABRICS. THIS PAPER ANALYSES THE FORMS HOW HEAT TRANSFER OCCURS THROUGH FABRICS AS A FUNCTION OF FIBER CHARACTERISTICS.
