EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF A VERTICAL UPWARD BUBBLY FLOW IN A SQUARE DUCT
 
Resumo :
THE PHASE DISTRIBUTION IN AIR-WATER BUBBLY FLOWS IN A VERTICAL DUCT WITH A SQUARED CROSS-SECTION HAS BEEN MEASURED AND MODELED. TO MEASURE THE LOCAL VOID FRACTION IN DIFFERENT POINTS OF THE SECTION ONE USED AN ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVE PROBE DRIVEN BY A DIGITAL MICROMETER ALLOWING TRANSVERSAL AND AZIMUTAL DISPLACEMENTS. THE 3D FLOW HAS BEEN MODELED WITH THE TWO-FLUID MODEL AND SOLVED BY THE CODE PHOENICS. THE MODEL USED THE K-E TURBULENT MODELLING WITH A BUBBLE-INDUCED TURBULENCE, AND WAS SOLVED FOLLOWING A SEMI-PARABOLIC APPROACH. THE RESULTS WERE PLOTTED AS LINE AND CONTOUR GRAPHICS FOR A FLOW WITH A SECTION-AVERAGED VOID FRACTION OF 3,8%. THERE WAS A GOOD AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE MEASURED AND CALCULATED DATA FOR THESE PRELIMINARY RESULTS WHEN ONE USED A LATERAL LIFT COEFFICIENT EQUAL TO 1,2.
