PRECISION ENHANCEMENT OF MACHINED PIECES BY GEOMETRICAL TESTS AND CNC ERROR COMPENSATION
 
Resumo :
ABSTRACT. THE GEOMETRIC ERRORS OF THE MACHINE TOOLS ARE TRANSFERRED DIRECTLY TO THE MACHINED PIECES, AFFECTING THEIR ACCURACY AND PROCESS PRODUCTIVITY. WITH THE CNC DEVELOPMENT, SOME OF THESE MECHANICAL ERRORS CAN BE COMPENSATED ELECTRONICALLY, TAKING THE MACHINE ACCURACY BEYOND ITS MECHANICAL LIMITATIONS. TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS MEANS, THE USERS SHOULD PERIODICALLY CALIBRATE THEIR MACHINES, AS THE GEOMETRIC ACCURACY VARIES ACCORDING TO NORMAL USE AND/OR AFTER SOME COLLISION, FOR EXAMPLE. IN THIS PAPER THE DIRECT INFLUENCE OF THIS CNC ERROR COMPENSATION RESOURCES ON THE PRECISION OF MACHINED WORKPIECES IS DEMONSTRATED. A VERTICAL MACHINE CENTRE WAS TESTED WITH LASER INTERFEROMETER AND THE CNC ERROR COMPENSATION TABLE WAS UPDATED. SIMILAR WORKPIECES WERE MACHINED BEFORE AND AFTER THE LASER TEST AND, THEN, MEASURED ON A COORDINATE MEASURING MACHINE. THE COMPARISON OF THESE PIECES DEMONSTRATES THE DIRECT INFLUENCE OF MACHINE TOOL ACCURACY ON THE WORKPIECES AND HIGHLIGHTS THE EFFICIENCY OF PERIODIC GEOMETRICAL TEST AND CNC ERROR COMPENSATION ON MACHINE TOOLS.
