 Titulo:
SIMULATION OF RESIN FLOWS IN VEHICULAR PARTS MOULDS DURING INJECTION PROCESS

Resumo :
ABSTRACT. THIS WORK DEALS WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR THE FLOW OF POLYESTER RESIN THROUGH A FIBERGLASS MAT INSERTED IN A FLAT RECTANGULAR MOULD. THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE RESIN FRONT ALLOWS THE ESTIMATE OF THE TIME REQUIRED TO COMPLETELY FILL THE MOULD. THIS STUDY HAS A DIRECT APPLICATION IN THE CAR INDUSTRY WHERE VEHICLES STRUCTURAL PARTS ARE MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS .THE NUMERICAL ALGORITHM SOLVES DARCY S EQUATION FOR FLOW THROUGH A POROUS MEDIUM, AND USES A FINITE ELEMENT TECHNIQUE, TAKING PRESSURE AS VARIABLE. THE NON-NEWTONIAN CHARACTERISTIC OF THE FLUID IS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT BY ADJUSTING AT EACH TIME STEP, THE FLUID VISCOSITY, CALCULATED BY AN EXPERIMENTAL POWER LAW RELATION. THE FLOW DOMAIN IS DISCRETIZED IN AN STRUCTURED MESH OF TRIANGULAR ELEMENTS. AS THE RESIN FRONT ADVANCES THROUGH THE MOULD, THE FLOW DOMAIN IS REDEFINED BY USING CELL MARKERS AND "ADVANCING PARTICLES". KEYWORDS: FINITE ELEMENTS, FLOW IN MOULDS, POROUS MEDIUM
