INFLUENCE OF POROSITY ON IMPACT BEHAVIOUR OF SINTERED FERROUS MATERIALS
 
Resumo :
ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF POROSITY ON MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF IRON SINTERED MATERIALS WHEN SUBJECTED TO IMPACT LOADS ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED. TESTS WERE PERFORMED AT TEMPERATURE RANGE BETWEEN -90 AND +90OC WITH AN INSTRUMENTED CHARPY PENDULUM, WHICH ALLOWS THE POSSIBILITY OF MEASURING, DURING IMPACT, THE FORCE APPLIED ON THE SPECIMEN AS WELL AS THE TOTAL ABSORBED ENERGY. THE TESTS WERE CONDUCTED ON SINTERED IRON WITH THREE DIFFERENT DENSITIES AND, FOR COMPARISON, ON A POREFREE IRON. THE LOAD-TIME CURVES WERE UTILIZED TO OBTAIN THE FRACTURE INITIATION ENERGY AND PROPAGATION ENERGY. THESE PARAMETERS WERE ANALYSED AND CORRELATED WITH POROSITY.
