 Titulo:
OPTIMAL PARAMETERS FOR HEAT TRANSFER IN A FINNED CONCENTRIC DUCT ANNULAR FLOW

Resumo :
ABSTRACT. IN THIS WORK THE TURBULENT FLOW IN A FINNED CONCENTRIC DUCT IS NUMERICALLY SIMULATED. THE SOLUTION OF THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL EQUATIONS (MASS, MOMENTUM, ENERGY AND TURBULENCE MODEL EQUATIONS) IS OBTAINED BY THE FINITE ELEMENT TECHNIQUE. THE HEAT TRANSFER PROBLEM IS ANALYZED WITH A CONJUGATED APPROACH, WHERE THE TUBE WALL AND FIN CONDUCTION AND THE CONVECTION IN THE FLUID ARE STUDIED BY A COUPLED FORMULATION. THE HEAT TRANSFER RATE AND PRESSURE DROP ARE CALCULATED FOR DIFFERENT FINS HEIGHT/PITCH RATIO, THEN MASS AND VOLUME OF EACH HEAT EXCHANGER CONFIGURATION ARE OBTAINED. THESE DATA ARE USED TO EVALUATE OPTIMAL COMPACTNESS PARAMETERS TAKING AS REFERENCE THE SMOOTH ANNULI ARE ALSO DETERMINED. RESULTS SHOWED THAT FINS ENHANCE HEAT TRANSFER BUT THEY INCREASE SIGNIFICANTLY FRICTION LOSS COEFFICIENT. KEYWORDS: CONJUGATED PROBLEM, FINS, FINITE ELEMENTS, AND CONCENTRIC ANNULAR DUCT.
