THE HIERARCHICAL NINE-NODE SHELL FINITE ELEMENT
 
Summary :
ABSTRACT. THE PAPER PRESENTS A HIERARCHICAL FORMULATION BASED ON THE P-VERSION CONCEPT. THE FIRST LEVEL OF APPROXIMATION OF THE SOLUTION IS OBTAINED THROUGH THE ISOPARAMETRIC QUADRILATERAL QUADRATIC NINE-NODE LAGRANGEAN SHELL FINITE ELEMENT, FROM THE REISSNER MINDLIN S FORMULATION, WITH CONSISTENT NUMERICAL INTEGRATION. FOR OTHERS APPROXIMATION LEVELS, SUCCESSIVE HIERARCHICAL REFINEMENTS ARE USED, OBJECTIFYING TO REMOVE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF EXCESSIVE RIGIDITY OF THE ISOPARAMETRIC ELEMENT FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THIN PLATES AND SHELLS. NUMERICAL EXAMPLES ARE PRESENTED TO SHOW THE ACCURACY, EFFICIENCY AND ADVANTAGES OF THE PRESENT FORMULATION, THE RESULTS OBTAINED ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE AVAILABLE IN THE LITERATURE.
